Planning and Design of Staff Housing for King Faisal University at Al-Ahsa :
The planning and design of the staff housing compound depended on the modern theories to design the residential quarters and to provide a suitable residential environment. The housing zone is around 1200 units to be occupied by 6000 inhabitants. They consists of individual houses (villas), housing buildings(apartments) distributed on 5 quarters which are semi separated with local service centre area for the quarter. The compound is connected with the green spine which is connected with the main centre. The study used the methodology of submitting a group of alternatives which were depending on following principles:
• Uses of the lots: Thru varying of the uses combining them and interacting between the activities.
• Organizing the urban environment: Thru the various visual environment and space studies.
• Traffic System: By providing an arrangement of buses traffic, pedestrian paths & connecting them with the compound.
• Masses and Spaces: Thru provision of items of connections, clearness, gradates and components units. Project Members distribution was considered by following:
• Zones: Separate 5 zones with local service centre and residential clusters within the zones.
• Limits: The ring road, surrounding streets and the boundaries of centres elements.
• Paths: The green spine, the connecting traffic paths and subdivisions.
• Knots: Central Park, Main centre, area garden, area branch traffic streets.
• Landmarks: The visual axes, central park and main entrance. the area is considered as a complete planning and a design pattern by providing the elements, planning and design principles, applying a number of modern items and properties in the design of the residential quarters, taking into consideration the with local environment requirements.
